Question: How can I be sure that they will work with my wheelchair?

Answer: The Handle Extender was designed to work on a wide range of products. If you are still not sure, our friendly customer service can help! Call or email us with the make and model of your wheelchair and we will confirm the compatibility.

Question: How easy are they to put on and take off?

Answer: The Handle Extenders are designed to be quickly applied and removed as needed. There are no tools needed, they simply clamp on to your wheelchair.

Question: Are the clamps metal or plastic?

Answer: The clamps are made of tempered steel and then coated in a non-slip vinyl. They are designed to firmly grip onto your wheelchair without damaging it.

Question: Will these Handle extenders work with my baby stroller?

Answer: This product is designed to work on both wheelchairs and strollers. Of course, there are so many different types of strollers available that it may not work with every design. Basically speaking, if there is an area of exposed tubing near the top of the stroller, than the Handle extenders will probably work! Please email us with the brand and model of stroller you have and we can give you a firm "yes", or "no".

Question: Why is there an option to purchase a second set of clamps? Is it sturdy enough with just one set?

Answer: If you intend to use this product on paved surfaces then one set of clamps will be just fine. But, if you intend to go through tall grass or up and down steep ramps and stairs, then you may wish to get the second set of clamps for added security.

Question: My wheelchair has hand brakes. Will these handle extenders interfere with them?

Answer: No. The Handle Extenders were designed to work around wheelchair hand brakes.

Question: What is the smallest diameter of tubing that this will clamp securely to?

Answer: 3/4" is the smallest.

Question: I need these for wheelchair rental. Will I need a screwdriver to remove them?

Answer: These Handle Extenders are designed to be applied and removed without tools. The user simply clamps on to the wheelchair . Some wheelchairs don't have enough exposed tubing so the user may have to loosen the seat fabric with a screwdriver. This procedure is explained on the box and is quite simple. It depends on the style of wheelchair you rent.

Question: Has anyone used this on an umbrella stroller? I get a horrible back ache from stooping over to push my granddaughter in her stroller.

Answer: The Handle Extender can be used on strollers too! As long as the stroller has a section of 7/8" round tubing where the extenders can be attached.

Question: I have a set but they spin inside the brackets at their tightest(before breaking). Will another set of brackets stop this?

Answer: Yes! The second set of clamps can be used for that purpose. Typically the extra clamps are used to ensure a good grip on the wheelchair, not on the extension handles.

Question: Are the extenders and clamps sturdy enough to tip the chair back on the big wheels so that you can get the front wheels over a curb?

Answer: We don't recommend using the handle extenders in that way. When tipping up and down curbs, it is suggested that the caregiver use the wheelchair's handles. The Handle extenders are useful for all other applications.

Question: Will these work on the wheelchairs rented at Disney World?

Answer: Yes, Disney rents standard wheelchairs at their parks. This Handle extender will fit!

Question: What is the largest diameter of tubing that it will clamp on to?

Answer: The clamps are designed to accommodate a tube diameter range of 3/4" - 7/8" - 1". The optimal tube diameter is 7/8".

Question: Would these fit on a travel wheelchair "18 inches wide? Ergo is the brand.

Answer: Yes, That wheelchair will work with the handle Extender. We recommend that you purchase the extra clamps too! The extra clamps are a good idea when clamping over the wheelchair fabric, which is the case on the Karman.

Question: Will these fit on a wheelchair that doesn’t have handles? I have a Ki mobility rogue with a jay3 back and need to put handles on.

Answer: It's probably not a good fit. I just looked at that product on Google Images and it appears that there is not a suitable spot to attach the Handle Extenders.

Question: Are the clamps plastic?

Answer: The clamps are made from Tempered Spring Steel. They are plastic coated.

Question: What model of Strongback should I buy?

Answer: The difference between the chairs is the size of the rear wheels: 8 inch (20 cm), 12 inch (30 cm) and 24 inch (60cm) diameter. The small wheels are a little lighter and thinner, allowing the chair to be folded into its most compact size, and are great for indoor use. The medium wheels are a bit heavier resulting in a slightly larger folded size, and are the best for outdoor use where there may be rougher terrain. The 24 inch wheels allow the user to self-propel.

Question: What size seat should I buy?

Answer: The smaller seat measures 16 inch (40 cm) across while the larger measures 18 inch (45 cm) across. Obviously a larger person will need the larger seat. The smaller seat width, however, makes a smaller overall chair, which maneuvers more easily in narrow places such as a restaurant or around furniture in your apartment at home, so you may want to choose the smallest size that still works comfortably for you.

Question: How easy is it to get in and out of the Strongback Wheelchair?

Answer: We have kept ease of entry and exit in mind when designing this chair. The footrests can swing away or be removed. The curved waterfall front of the seat not only prevents leg pinching, but also provides a level area where you can sit before fully entering or exiting the chair. The upright posture encouraged by the Strongback wheelchair places the user in a position of strength where it is much easier to stand up – in normal wheelchairs the poor seated posture forces the user into a slouched position making it more difficult to stand and unfold the body into an erect position.

Question: How do you fold the chair?

Answer: You will first want to fold down the back and then pull up on the center front and back of the seat fabric.
